Taking a Break from my Cell Phone

While it seems that I never go anywhere without my HTC One phone these days, it is still healthy to spend some time away from it.  We spend way too much time being “plugged in”, and I don’t know if it is that healthy.  In fact, I have had a few experiences like this video portrays of how people just sit around, connected to their electronic devices, and have no real-world socialization:

But the truth of the matter is that we depend on these electronic devices a lot more than we ever did in past.  Whether this will be a good or bad thing remains to be seen, but in the meantime, I am going to choose to take some time away from my phone each week – I need that break :)

Buying Christmas Gifts for My Nieces

One of the best parts about being an auntie is that I can spoil my nieces and nephews.  I know that I won’t be able to do this forever since someday I will have children of my own, but in the meantime, I get to do whatever I want

So, I have been Christmas shopping for my nieces this past week, and I have found some great bargains.  I am a bit of a discount bin nut, and my friends chastise me when they see me looking for the best deals I can find.  But I think that being thrifty is the way to go since I only have so much money to spend on them anyway.

After digging around and shopping from my computer, I have settled on three gifts so far that will make their Christmas (and life) that much better.  At least it will ensure that I am the best auntie

This Monster High Catty Noir doll is kind of creepy to me, but Jessica is really into them right now.  I know she doesn’t have one, so it should be a hit.

It should be no surprise that I also bought a set of Twin Size Disney Princess Sheets.  All of the girls have gone through the Disney Princess faze and have each had a set similar to these.  They are always a sure-fire win if you are buying for a niece (or your own daughters for that matter).

This Melissa and Doug Princess Castle Furniture set is a perfect gift for Emily.  These have been some of the best toys for her as she is a little hard on them.

Needless to say, I did find some good deals, but there is still a lot of shopping for me to do before I am done.  I have so much fun shopping for these kids that I bet it will be an even bigger blast when I have my own – though I am in no rush yet.

Blue Razz Curve Velata Fondue Warmer

As many of my friends know, I am a sucker when it comes to Fondue.  Not only is it a great way to share dessert with a small group of guests, but it is really easy to get ready.  You don’t have to be a rocket scientist or have to be any kind of a chef – all you need is some chocolate, strawberries and Angel Food Cake (which is my favorite).

Since I love the colour blue, it should be no surprise that one of my good friends bought me one of these Blue Razz Curve Velata Fondue Warmers for my birthday.  I’ve had my besties over a few times now for fondue night, and we always have a blast.

Definitely one item that should be in every girl’s collection.

I Love Cake

While I do what I can to watch my weight and keep my lovely figure, I have been known to treat myself from time to time.  It doesn’t happen as much as I would like by any means, but a girl has to be smart about what she puts in her body.

But today I succumbed to some peer pressure while out with my friends at a restaurant just down the street from my apartment.  They dragged me out for lunch (since I have been a bit of a hermit lately), and I had my favorite: a clubhouse sandwich.  I was going to leave it at that, but Curt insisted that I have a piece of cake.  I wasn’t going to, but you only live once, right?

Well, I took a picture of the cake as a reminder of it – it was delicious.  But I have to remember that I can’t eat cake all the time – having some self control is important.
